Can you say the alphabet backwards? Let’s see. I’ll start with Z and work my way to A. I’ll pause every few letters, fill in the blank in you can. Ready?

    Z, Y, X, __, V, U, T, S, R, Q, __, O, N, M, L, __,
J, I, H, G, F, __, D, C, B, and A.

Did you keep up? Which letters did I leave out? The correct answer is: W, P, K, and E.

Now I’ll do it the traditional way, A to Z. See you if you can tell which letters I skip.

    A, B, C, ___, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, __, O, P, Q, R, __, T, U, __, W, X, __, and Z.

    The missing letters? D, N, S, V, Y.

Which one was easier? Probably the latter. Why? Because you’ve practiced saying your ABC’s a lot more than your ZYX’s.

Following Jesus is a lot like that. The more you follow His example, the easier it is. Philippians 2 says to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. This that becoming like Jesus takes work. But the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. And this is the ABC’s of imitating Jesus.
